Saturday Night Awards & Party : On what we thought would be our last night in El Salvador, Medical Hands for Healing team members accepted certificates of appreciation from the El Salvadoran government followed by a night of dancing, laughing and camaraderie. Little did we know that Hurricane Ida was bearing down on us. It would not be until morning that we learned of the devastation caused by the heavy rains, flooding, mud and rock slides. Our trip would be extended one more day while we waited for the waters to recede, clearing our way back to the airport in San Salvador.

Hurricane Ida, El Salvador : On Sunday November 8th, Medical Hands for Healing (an international medical and surgical service team that I am a member of) headed back to San Salvador from Costa del Sol where we had spent Saturday night celebrating a successful week of surgeries at Hospital San Juan de Dios in Santa Ana, El Salvador. Little did we know the wrath that Hurricane Ida was leaving behind while we slept the night before. These images were captured from my bus window as we drove back into the city. The ride was humbling for all of us as we watched the local residents grieve the loss of their homes, their belonging, and in some instances their friends and family members.

Clinica Santa Maria : Upon arriving in Santiago, Christine was referred by a local doctor to the Clinica Santa Maria where she received treatment for sever abdominal and back pain. The clinic provided excellent service. The staff were extremely caring although they didn't speak any english. Services were rendered within minutes of arrival and the doctors orders for an ultrasound, bloodwork and an IV for pain meds were completed in no time. Excellent staff and all of this for less than $500. You gotta love cash pay hospitals!

San Cristobal, Santiago Chile : Jim and I visited Cerro San Cristobal (or St Christopher's Hill) in Parque Metropolitan in Santiago Chile. We rode to the top of the hill via the cable cars you see here, another option is to take the funicular. The hill is the site of the 15 meter high statue of La Virgen Maria, partly the work of French Sculptor Frederic Bertholdi, famous for the "Statue of Liberty" here in America. Other sites include the church, the memorial to the Virgen Mary, city view, a pool and other city park like attractions.

La Cocotera Ecolodge, El Salvador 10.08 : The last week of October my friend Colette and I spent 4 days at La Cocotera Ecolodge in Barra Santiago, El Salvador. We took advantage of all the resort had to offer including taking part in a turtle release, kayaking the estuary, an afternoon on the floating ranchita, a trip by panga to the local school, and a trip to a local home to learn how to make tortillas!

Nicaragua 08.08 : We returned to our home in Nicaragua in August, this time Cousin Ricky came along. We were eager to check the place for water damage from hurricane Alma. Luckily all we found was a water stain on one of the curtains. We spent alot of time at the beach frolicking in the waves. The country was beautiful, entirely green from the rainy season. We only suffered one extended power outage and the road to town continues to be paved slowly but surely.

Zoë's Arrival : Zoe arrive Sunday May 25th around 2:15pm, to the tune of the Indianapolis 500. Mom,Dad and Zoe are doing great!

Havasupai Hike : I spent the weekend of April 11th hiking on the Havasupai Indian Reservtion in the Grand Canyon with 10 of my friends. We visited Navajo, Havasu, Mooney and Beaver Falls.

Lion's Head Hike : Jim, Tim and Christine hike Lion's Head in Cape Town, South Africa. It started out being a chilly and very windy hike, but turned into a hot African afternoon. When we arrived there was a movie being shot at the base of the mountain. Many of these photos are actually of Table Mountain which we didn't hike but did visit on another day when the top wasn't covered in clouds.

Kapama Game Reserve : Jim and I stayed at Kapama Game Reserve in South Africa form February 22-29. There are alot of photos here but it is really hard to choose when you've taken over 1500 shots. I am not going to take time to label all of the photos, just the animal you may not be familiar with. The animals know as the "Big Five" are Lion, Leopard, White Rhinoceros,African Buffalo, and African Savanna Elephant; all of which we got to see. Each day started with a 5:30am wake up call. Coffe, tea, and light snack were served and we were in our Land Cruiser by 6am. Morning game drive lasted until 9am and then we were served a full breakfast buffet style, outside around the boma. Next we headed to the pool, bar or lounge area for a bit. Lunch was served from 11 to 1pm. Then it was naptime until around 3:30 when showers were taken. Tea was at 4pm followed by game drive at 4:30. Evening game drive included a stop for a sundowner where a minibar and snacks, (including biltong, nuts, pretzels,etc) were set up. Game drive ended around 7 although we were usually late, sometimes as late as 8pm. Dinner was from 7:30 until 9pm around the boma, in the river bed, or in the formal dining area. Several nights we were entertained by local musicians and dancers.

Kapama Game Reserve

A Day in London : Jim and I left Phoenix on Wednesday the 20th of February. After a transfer through L.A. and then Chicago, we arrived in London on the morning of the 21st. We spent 8 hours walking around the city before returning to Heathrow for a shower and leaving for Johannesburg. Didn't take alot of pics, weather was crummy, cold and windy. Not sure what the men on horses were doing. All of these were taken in and around Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.

A Day in London

Sundance 01.08 : Jim and I spent Jan 3rd-7th at Sundance Resort in Utah. The trip was a wedding gift to us from my mom and her husband, Jim. As you can see the snow was beautiful!!! It came down by the bucket loads and we had great ski conditions. The resort itself is a must on your list of travels. It is a very quaint, peaceful, relaxing place. I hope we are able to return in the spring or fall for a hiking trip.

El Salvador 11.07 : Jim and I travelled to El Salvador with the group Manos Que Ayudan for a one week medical mission at Hospital San Juan de Dios in Santa Ana. The team perfomed 98 surgeries over 5 days. Our general surgery team performed 32 laparoscopic cholecystectomies. Other teams included gynecology, pediatric plastics, and orthopaedic surgery. An upwards of 700 patients were seen in clinic, including GYN, internal med, and pediatrics. There was just enough time left for bit of sighseeing. Hope you enjoy the images!

Nicaragua 8.07 : Jim and I spent our honeymoon vacationing in our newly built villa in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. The villa had just been completed prior to our arrival, and was fully functioning, but not fully decorated yet. We had a great time visiting nearby beaches, Vulcan Masaya, Catarina, and Laguna de Apoyo.

Mumm-St Clement : The day after the wedding we rented a bus and took all of our guests on a tour of Mumm Napa, and St Clement Winery. Mumm provided us with bubbly tastings and lunch was served at St Clement. Good Times!

Wedding-Calistoga Ranch : Christine and Jim were married on August 24th at 5:00pm on Lommel Lawn at Calistoga Ranch. A cocktail reception was held on the lawn immediately following the ceremony. Dinner was served in the wine cave at 7:00pm. Live jazz for the ceremony, reception and dinner was provided by Kevin Frazier and his band.
